WTA Joins More than 250 Other Organizations in Calling for USF Contributions Modernization

On November 29, WTA, along with 253 other organizations signed a letter to policymakers recommending they modernize the Universal Service Fund contribution mechanism to include broadband. The statement notes the problem of the rising contributions factor, now around 30%, states that the organizations “support immediate action to reform and stabilize the funding mechanism that supports the USF by expanding the list of services that pay into it to include broadband internet access services.”

The organizations signing the statement represent public interest groups, communications companies (including a number of WTA member companies), anchor institutions, and consumers.
