On February 3, WTA filed comments in response to the Commission’s Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in its supply chain proceeding. WTA reiterated that any funding for a reimbursement program for covered equipment should come from a Congressional appropriation and not the Universal Service Fund. We also argued that the Commission must also consider how affected carriers will continue offering service in rural America as they transition away from covered equipment in what might be a multi-year process. Finally, the Commission should ensure that the carriers immediately impacted by the USF prohibition – mostly small, rural ETCs – are given priority when distributing funding.
