WTA Responds to Senate USF Working Group

Today, WTA responded to an inquiry from the Senate USF Working Group on the future of the Universal Service Fund. The construction, operation, maintenance, and upgrade of rural communications networks requires a predictable and sufficient USF. Without USF and the principles enacted in the 1996 Telecom Act – reasonably comparable rates and services to urban areas, and predictable and sufficient levels of support – the rural areas served by WTA’s member companies would not have the level of communications services they enjoy today. WTA looks forward to continuing to work with the leaders of the Working Group to ensure USF contributions and distributions keep pace with today’s broadband demands.
