WTA Recommends Extending STIR/SHAKEN Deadline for Small Carriers
Today, WTA filed comments with the FCC supporting the continuation, or in the alternative the further extension, of the existing extended deadline until June 30, 2023, of the requirement for small voice service providers with 100,000 or fewer voice service lines to implement STIR/SHAKEN. WTA argues that due to costs of compliance, the lack of illegal robocalls originating on the networks of rural carriers, the prevalence of TDM tandem switches used by large carriers, and the ability of the FCC to mandate immediate compliance for those small carriers that abuse the current extension it makes sense to extend the deadline.
