WTA Supports Extending Small Provider Exemption to Open Internet Enhanced Transparency Requirements
Today, WTA filed comments in support of permanently extending the exemption from the FCC’s enhanced transparency requirements adopted in the 2015 Open Internet Order for small broadband service providers serving fewer than 100,000 connections. WTA urged that small providers already comply with the transparency requirements adopted in 2010, and the minimal benefits to consumers that could arise from the enhanced reporting is significantly outweighed by the additional cost to small broadband providers. Requiring compliance by these already resource-constrained service providers would only be diverting resources to compliance that would otherwise be available for critically needed broadband infrastructure deployment.
