WTA Files Reply Comments on FCC Broadband Privacy and Data Security Proposals
Today, WTA filed replies to comments in the record regarding the FCC’s proposals on privacy and data security for broadband providers. Reiterating its initial comments, WTA again urged the Commission to adopt exemptions tailored for small providers that lack the incentive and ability to engage in the marketing and customer information practices at issue in the NPRM. WTA also highlighted the unprecedented nature of the FCC’s data security proposals, noting the disparity between existing state and federal requirements that ISPs will still need to comply with in the future. WTA also urged the Commission against adopting rules for one segment of the online ecosystem that divert substantially from rules applicable to other online entities. WTA looks forward to working with the Commission to address its concerns and to minimize the burdens on small providers that need all available resources for broadband deployment.
