As policymakers seek solutions to the scourge of unwanted robocalls, WTA continues to represent the interests of rural networks that may not be able to easily implement costly solutions to end them— such as STIR/SHAKEN—in the same manner as larger companies.
In the case of STIR/SHAKEN, smaller carriers may rely on a legacy tandem interconnection that leaves STIR/SHAKEN out of the question. WTA is committed to developing standards with governing authorities and vendors that will help its members adopt call authentication measures without significantly interrupting their normal business operations.
