WTA Meets with FCC on TDM-IP Transition

On May 15th, representatives from WTA met with the the FCC’s General Counsel and Chief Technology Officer, representatives from the Wireline Competition Bureau and staff from Commissioners Pai and Rosenworcel’s office to discuss the TDM to IP transition.

WTA Files Comments on FCC’s NPRM on Improving 9-1-1 Reliability

On May 13th, WTA filed comments in response to the FCC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding the country’s 9-1-1 system. WTA does not believe that “there is a clear and established need for expanded new nationwide 9-1-1 service requirements and reporting rules for all service providers at this time.”

Rural Associations File Comments on Call Completion

On May 13th, NECA, WTA, NTCA, and ERTA filed comments on the FCC’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on rules intended to curb the practice of some carriers not completing calls in rural areas. In a press release, the associations stated that “many of the NPRM’s proposals will help the FCC, industry and consumers track the problems and pursue enforcement action, some of those proposals require clarification and refinement to aid in such efforts.”

WTA Files Comments on Proposed Changes to Form 481

On April 25, WTA filed comments with the FCC in a proceeding regarding proposed changes to new FCC Form 481 Annual Reporting Form for High-Cost Recipients.

Rural Associations File Petition for Reconsideration of Portions of 6th Order on Reconsideration

Today, WTA, NECA and ERTA filed a Petition for Reconsideration of portions of the FCC’s 6th Order on Reconsideration of its USF/ICC Transformation Order. Specifically, the three associations requested that the FCC reconsider its determination that the quantile regression methodology results in predictable support for carriers and that it reasonably based its benchmarks on analyses of similarly situated companies, therefore the benchmarks should be not used to determine support amounts. The associations also requested that the FCC reconsider its decision that rejected the rural associations’ proposal that the regression model and benchmarks be used only to trigger a harder look to determine whether a carrier’s costs are truly inefficient.
