During its May 13th open meeting the FCC unanimously approved a Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking requiring all telecommunications carriers to complete simple wireline-to-wireline and simple intermodal ports within one business day. The requirement will go into effect for small carriers 15 months after the North American Numbering Council developes a new LNP provisioning process flow. You can view the Order here.

WTA Comments on High-Cost USF for Non-Rural Carriers
On Friday, May 8th, WTA joined NECA, OPASTCO, NTCA and ERTA in filing comments at the FCC in response to the FCC requesting that interested parties refresh the record on the issue of high-cost universal service fund support for non-rural carriers. The comments urge the FCC to maintain its existing policy of recognizing critical differences between rural telephone companies and non-rural carriers. Any determinations made in this proceeding with respect to non-rural universal service mechanisms should not negatively impact support mechanisms for rural, rate of return-regulated telephone companies.
